I asked the same question and have gotten lots of replies. Some people said to dip it into pickle juice to make it sour. Others said to go cold turkey. A few have said to cut a piece off, give it to them and they'll think it's broken. One or two said to tell them that your a big kid now and we have to give it to other little babies who need a pacifier. Or throw it out. I'm going cold turkey and have been doing good in the past two days. A lot of crying when going down for nap time and not so much crying going down for bed. Good Luck!

I don't know if this will help but I was a mean mom. When my daughter was 18 months I made her throw away her pacifiers. Of course she cried while she was throwing them away but I told her she had to be a big girl now. I never really had any problems after that. Of course before that I was weening her off of them so by that time she was only using it to go to sleep.

I think every child is different so it all depends. My DD never really clung to anything physical and she is independent so it was easy with her.
