No Matter what time my son goes to be he gets up at 4:40am

My one year old son goes to bed at 7:30-8:00 every night and he will sleep through the night, but he gets up at 4:40 am. He doesn't want to stay up any later than 8:00. He lays down on us or gets super cranky when he wants to go to bed and he will fall asleep right away. But he will get up at 4:40 every morning and either want a bottle or just want to lay with us. We can't seem to break him of the habit. It's getting tiresome and we have a new baby on the way, due March. I'd like to break him of this before the baby gets here. Because that would just be so much more work if he was getting up that early. Any suggestions?

keeping your little one up later will not make him sleep later...I would put him down earlier and get more sleep for you...you could try a bottle of water in his bed for when he wakes up..good luck

I think it would be worth a trial run to try an earlier bedtime.  You could back up his bedtime by 15 minutes each day and see what happens.  If you don't notice any change within 3 days then it probably won't get any better.  Good luck with whatever you decide!

What happens when you put him to bed earlier? It seems that my children will sleep longer the earlier they go to bed. It doesn't make sense that way but it really is true for them.

If we put him to bed earlier, it's on the nights when my husband is home with him and I am at work. He thinks if he is grumpy.. he must want to go to bed.. he tries to take the quick way out.  I am just afraid that if we put him to bed any earlier that we will be getting up with him at 3:00 in the morning for the day... sometimes when he wakes up we can get him to fall back asleep, but not very often.. My mother says that we (as kids) use to sleep 7:00pm to 7:00am.. and I am like.. how is that possible.. my son barely sleeps. 9 hours a night... Everyone around me, their children sleep from.. 8-9 at night to.. 8-9 in the morning.. and I just don't get it.. my son isn't waking up because he is hungry.. out of all the kids around us.. he eats the most..

I am just at a lose.. I have no idea what to do and my husband thinks I should just let him cry (that's only because my husband can sleep through his crying) I just lay there and listen to it and feel bad and end up getting up. I have let him cry for an hour before.. I felt like the worst person ever!
