not walking yet

My son is 17 months old and he refuses to walk!! He cruises along the furniture at lightning speed, but as soon as he gets to the end of it, its down on all fours and away he goes!! My husband thinks it has something to do with the fact that he had club feet when he was born, but since his feet have been correected, I dont believe thats the case. I think he is just stubborn. His left foot turns in slightly but he can get/keep it straight, and it doesnt stop him from cruising which i think it would if it was any kind of issue. When hes at the end of the couch I call him to come to me and hold out my arms, being just out of reach, and he cries and gets mad-he wont do it!! has anyone had this happen?? Any suggestions?? anyone else's kids late walkers?? Thanks!!

I agree with Amelia regarding checking with your pediatrician!

That being said: my son didn't start walking until he was 18 months old. He was just like your son, in that he cruised along the furniture without a problem, but would crawl to get anywhere. But then, one day, he started walking.

This, however, fits with my son's personality. he won't do anything until he has it completly mastered. so when he finally started walking, there was no tripping, no unsteady steps. He simply walked. perfectly. he was very sure footed. and two days later he was running. on tiptoe. ;) He also didn't start talking until very late. for the longest time he only said three words: "Hi", "mom" and "bellybutton". I didn't worry about any speech problems when his third word was bellybutton! ;)

you should really let you pediatrician see him walk along furniture. they could determine if it's a real problem or if he is just being stubborn.
