My 3 and a half yr old is showing signs of ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder.) He is collecting random objects like bottle tops and he wont let anyone else touch them.... when ppl do he becomes very angry and sometimes even violent. He will sit for up to an hour arranging the bottle tops so that the r all the same and in a straight line. Another thing he has started doing is sorting things into color groups.... for example, he had some jellie babie lollies and sorted them into color groups and made sure all their heads were in the right direction and were all again in a straight line..... then he only ate the orange ones. I asked him why he didn't eat the other colors and he simply said he can't! I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if so how can I go about getting a diagnosis??????

Our son does this weird thing whenever he has to wash his hands or clean his teeth, he goes around shutting the toilet lid and the vanity door and the two adjoining doors and he gets really antsy if we try to stop him. I think it is normal.

My 2 year old son will line up his cars in order from biggest to smallest. I don't necesarily think that this is related to OCD, in fact i think it is just their way of organizing things.

that was relieving to read. my daughter could spend an hour doing repetetive tasks. i think it's the way the brain develops. and yes...notoriously weird. lol.

My daughter does these things too. It's more common repetitive behaviors rather then OCD behaviors. Plus OCD usually manifests a little later in life. Toddlers are notorious for being weirdos. LOL. Talk to your ped if you are worried, but it sounds normal to me. Check out What To Expect books, and you'll see a lot on this topic.

I can remember doing stuff like that as a kid, and I am not OCD. =) I think it's just normal.

I don't necessarily think that this is horribly unusual for children? My son, also 3, collects cars. He'll line them all up in a methodical order and it's a RARE person that is allowed to touch them! He's broken out of it a little bit, mostly because he wants people to play with him, but all kids go through these phases I think? If you are concerned you can ask your pediatrician for a referral for a counselor that specializes in children and diagnosis. Talking to your pediatrician may be all the step you need to ease your conscious?
