Hi all. I'm at my wits end. My 2 1/2 year old wakes up at around 4:00 a.m. and I just can't seem to get her back to bed! It takes me a couple of hours to put her to sleep in the first place (she usually falls asleep at about 11:00 p.m.) and then she wakes up and just wants to play. Then at about 9:00 a.m. she'll go back to sleep. I've tried to keep her awake until her nap time, but she'll go hide somewhere and go to sleep or not sleep at all, not take a nap and then at night the same cycle starts. I've tried just about everything I can think of or have read about. I have two more children who go to school so I do try to keep the screaming and crying to a minimum and that's why in the end (after about an hour of putting her back in her bed) I take her to my room. She doesn't want to be there and she doesn't want to sleep in my bed, but at least there I can control the noise she makes and make sure she doesn't go into her siblings' rooms and wake them up.
I'm exhausted!

We had a night owl too. I think it's just who they are. My daughter, also 2 1/2 would stay up until at least 10 or 11 everynight no matter what we did. My husband is home with her during the day and decided to try not giving her her nap. I personally never would have tried this, but by the end of the week she was going to bed at 7:30 and sleeping until 7 or 8 in the morning. He did have to keep her busy around nap time that first week. Every once in a while she will take a short nap in the afternoon if we have had a busy morning, but it is rare, and she still goes to bed at 7:30 on those nights. Hope this helps. Again, I never would have dreamed of eliminating the nap, but it really helped.
