When is it a good age for your child to sleep with a pillow in their bed? My child is 16 months and really wants a pillow in his bed but I am worried it is to soon.

no it is not too soon my daughter is one year and has been sleeping with a pillow since she was 6 months at ur sons age he knows when to turn his head or move it when he canr breathe or is not comfortable so let him have his pillow and trust him with it and if it makes u feel better just let him have it for naps at first sou can moniter his actions and feel well enough for him to have it over night

Quoting Rainy:

My daughter had reflux as a baby, so it helped her to sleep on an incline. for that reason, she has always had a pillow in her bed. But when she was younger I put it under her fitted crib sheet. You could try that at first. Just be sure it isn't too fluffy.

I did the same thing for my son. We started him in a boppie pillow under the sheet..... It helps in breathing and He really loved it. He still now wont go to bed without it. Hes 2 yrs old. lol

this is funny, cause i had asked teh same question a few months ago. so i went to walmart and got a little pillow in the infants department. its small. he loved it and he was almosy 14 months old. but when it lost all the fluffness to it he would wake up in the middle of the night crying cause he couldn't get comfortable. so i put a regular one in. its more flat but he loves it!! hes now just over 15month and thats how he sleeps now. its up to the parnet and only if you think your child can handle it. its made our nights so much better thats for sure.

I think you should be fine, My son sleeps with a pillow and he is just fine. Pillows and blankets are fine at that age. The risk has dropped dramitically at that age of something happening.

Both of mine have had a pillow since they been walking they can't sleep without the but I did start off by putting it under the sheet and a flat worn pillow no feathers! May cause allergic reaction or cause trouble breathing.. They have been known to take a babies breath

my daughter was about 6mths when she started using a pillow due to allergy and drainage. i was very worried and would wake up several times a night even though we never had any trouble. we also brought one of those baby monitors that detects movement. you place a board under the mattress and if there is no movement for 30 seconds a alarm will go off. this helped put my mind at ease and allowed me to sleep at night without constantly checking on her

My son started using a pillow when he was about 3 months old. When I put him in bed, I would put his upper half of his body on the pillow so that he was at an incline. I have never had any problems. He sleeps with a feather pillow, 2 blankets, and about 5 or 6 stuffed animals.

My son sleeps with a pillow sometimes (non-fluffy) and he's one year old. Depending on the kid, I guess. My oldest son slept with one at a year as well.

My daughter was almost 2 before she was even allowed more than a receiving blanket when she slept. I put her in a toddler bed when she was 15 mos. old. My mom thought i was nuts. She kept saying if she is old enough to sleep in a big girl bed, she's old enough for a blanket and pillow. i put it off until she was almost 2, like i said. I think she could have had a blanket and pillow when she was about 15-18 mos. old, depending on the child. lol

I gave my son a flat pillow when he was 2 and I moved him to his big boy bed. I never used a pillow in the crib. He is almost 3 and I still don't use a blanket or top sheet for him. He rolls around so much and gets too tangled. I really think it depends on the kind of sleeper your child is and how much they roll around and toss and turn.

My daughter was 15 months when I started putting a pillow in her bed and we occasionally co-sleep and I thought maybe that's why she slept better in my bed because she uses a pillow when she sleeps in my bed so I put one in her bed and she sleeps better in her bed now.

I actually put a flat pillow in my kids bed around that time, just an older one you might have that is not too fluffy would be perfect and when they are older you can get them a new fluffier one if they need it.

I have a sixteen month old too plus lots of others older and I think your child is old enough. Children that age have a very strong survival instinct. I think he will be just fine!

My 2 year old has slept with a pillow in his bed since he was around that age. However I believe it all depends on your child. If at any time you question it then maybe it's not quite time. With my little one I just knew, and it worked out! He loves his pillow and will not sleep without it! Good luck!!
