I am very embarrassed to even bring this topic up but I hope someone is brave enough to help me. My daughter who is now 3 I was told by her sitter the other day that she pooped her pants and then finished in the toilet but then got it everyhere! I don't know exactly what everywhere entailed but you get the jist. Anyway, she hasn't done this but maybe a handful of times at the beginning of our potty training efforts when she was about 18 months to 2. Basically when she didn't know better. But just about a month to 6 weeks ago she was finally bringing herself to the toilet to poop and pee. we were so excited. just recently she has only done it at the sitters and just that once. anyone know how to stop this if it should happen again? Anyone know what it is possibly caused by? Is it attention seeking? could it be my sitter wasn't attentive enough at the time until iit was too late? Please help me. I am very frustrated by that and feel at 3 she knows better.

I personally dont have this problem.. but a close friend of mine her son is a poo artist.. he has seen a therapist about this and other problems.. but what they told her(the mom) was to get him playing with things with texture.. like playdogh, finger paints etc.. it actually helped.. as long as he plays with textured things a few times a week he doesnt smear his poo.. Its worth a try.. besides that I wish u good luck

thank you for your reply and suggestions. Not really a topic a lot of people want to talk about or address. I had actually asked the sitter who was watching her that day and she thought what happened is that she messed in her pants and then went to go potty to finish and then got some on her hands while she was pulling her pants off and tried to get it off after and it became a bigger mess. She really didn't feel it was done for any particular reason. I hope that is all it was and I do think that one of the sitters is not as attentive as the other and we are looking into possible other options. Otherwise I know she knows where it should go and it could also be an attention seeking thing because her 5 month old sister gets alot of attention too. But thank you for your response I appreciate it.

I agree at 3 years old you'd think she knows better, but maybe she kept trying to get the sitters attention and didn't pay attention so she felt like she had to dig in her panties or diapers whatever you use. My son does the same thing. Although he doesn't know how to use the potty yet or talk and is only 2. He always touches his butt when he tells me he goes poo, and he use to go in his diaper and then show it to me. LOL. It was cute now that I think about it but very disgusting. I told him not to do that and to just tell me that he went poo. I had to tell him a couple of times and put him on time out but it works, he hasn't done it since.
