My 3 year old has been going to the toilet for months now but we have always had trouble getting him to feel comfterable to poop. He has pooped on there a hundred or more times but all of a sudden he has stopped. He will poop in his jocks or in his nappy at bed time but will not go to the toilet. He has been constipated in the past to the point where I had to take him to hospital and they ended up drugging him up and flushing him out, amongst other things. As a mother I hated seeing him go through it, as any mother would. I know that he doesnt remember being in hospital and I def know that because of that he isnt pooping now, cause he was going to the toilet fine after that. So what I really need help with is...I want to know of anyone else in a similar situation and how they are dealing with it. Basically I just want to be able to help my lil man poop and not get sick.

Thanks ladies, he has been pooping in his jocks but wont go to the toilet. Ive had him on a laxative for a while now and that doesnt seem to be helping. Im also feeding him juice and prunes and anything that will help but nothing seems to be working. Its frusrating. We have a docs app for him on monday so hopefully our doc can check his insides out and hopefully fix the problem. I just hope that its not a twisted bowel or anything like that.

My nephew went through a similar situation recently, although no hospitals were involved. I agree with the giving foods that will make his stools softer, making it easier for him to pass them. My sister decided to buy some small lollipops and offer them as a kind of reward for using the toilet for pooping. It seems kind of like a bribe I know, but it worked! Once she ran out of the lollipops, he was regularly using the toilet to poop with no problems and no longer asking for the lollipops. It all depends on your preference as to whether you want your child to have sugar. If not, you could try stickers, or some other reward that he will get excited about. I hope this helps and good luck to you and your son!

Hi there poor wee fella. I haven't experienced the same situation but you could try giving him foods that will soften up his poop. Maybe it is hurting him when he poops because of the constipation? Anyway try foods like prunes, kiwifruit and anything that is high in fibre. Stay away from bananas for a little while as they can have the opposite affect of prunes etc. Maybe try giving him a reward chart with a sticker everytime he poos on the toilet or something like that. Good luck.
