I have a 3 yr old who refuses to even look at his potty, I even tried to get him to use the big potty, but nothing. He kicks and screams when I even try to get him to go. He will potty occasionally but it has to be his idea, usually bed time. I need ideas.

Hi, my 3 1/2 year old JUST started potty training (for real this time). I have been so embarrased that he is not potty trained, but he refused to go. "No thank you" was his response anytime we asked. Lots of friends gave me different suggestions, but ultimately we just waited for him to tell us when he wanted to go. After he had made the decision (which was just a week and a half ago) that he wanted to use the potty, he has been very successful in going pee AND poo in the potty with no accidents. Amazing! He hasn't even wet himself at night.

There were several things that "helped":

1) Daddy wears big boy underwear (my son is ALL about daddy)

2) He got gum for pee and ice cream for poo in the potty (and yes, we made three trips to Braum's one day b/c he went poo three times in the potty)

3) Since he's old enought to tell us when he needs to go, we aren't always hounding him about going, so we make a big deal about it when he goes. He's all about cheerleading for himself.

I hope this helps. It's hard, I'm not going ot lie. But go with what you are comfortable with and what your son is ok with.

Sending good potty vibes-

Clarissa
