I am getting ready to have my 2nd child and would like to get the potty training process at least started with him. We have gotten him to the point that he is not afraid of the potty and knows when he needs to go but still doesnt understand when to tell me he wants to go or gets too shy to do it in front of me! Does anyone have any suggestions or things that have worked for them?

My first child had shown some signs of being ready for using the potty before the second baby came.  We worked with it, but after we brought home baby brother he went back to no interest.  It has been almost 2 years now and we are finally almost completely potty trained on the first one.  The second one has an interest because he sees big brother doing it.

well, he is still little and may not understand the feelings that going on down there. I had help with my oldest only because my ex had plenty of experience with it and our son just wanted to be like his big brother. My 3 year old is actually going cold turkey because he's weird. LOL I'm in the same boat I'm due in march and don't want to have to buy pull-ups and diapers. Trent is my 3yo and he goes potty when we are out and about no matter what he always going both 1 and 2. We can't seem to get him to #2 at home. I've come to the conclusion that he's comfortable in his pull-up because its warm. We're going cold turkey because its time, he stays dry longer than 2 hours, he goes potty by himself when he has to pee but pooping is still a hard one and of ALL of the forums I'm on regarding this topic its the one problem we all share with our boys is pooping. Some just go and other refuse. some suggestions are cheerios for him to aim at or red or blue food dye so he can change the colors but I've yet to see a solution for pooping. good luck and let me know if you have any success.

I always sat my daughter on the potty whenever i used the potty! I would then tell her she was a big girl too and to use her potty and she did!! I just kept telling her that she was the BIG sister and big girls use the potty she just had her 2nd bday 2 weeks before my son was born and was doing amazing but once the baby came she wanted to be a baby again and be changed and put diapers on!( just to prepare you) It was mostly to get attention from us but we just kept encouraging her and praising her everytime she used the potty or tried my son is now 7 months and she is totally trained and wearing big girl panties for 2 months now! I also suggest you try to stay home for a week to be able to be right by a potty. Another good one is use the pull ups that actually feel wet when they go this way he will get used to the feeling and be able to put 2 and 2 together and realize that if he goes in the potty he wont be wet.Good luck:) just remember to always keep it positive and lots and lots of praise

oh I forgot I also used the little chocolates and everytime after she used the potty she got one so she was going many extra times but as long as she did something she got one and 2 if she pooped!
