Put him in underwear! Boys hate to feel the pee on themselves. He will the idea QUICK! The diaper and the pull-ups just prolong it. Also, put on very thin pants over his underwear so you will see when it happens. This works!

My son took for ever to potty train he is 4 now and is fully potty trained. It took my husband and I a long time to figure out what worked with him M&Ms after going, Big boy underwear, a Star Chart, We tried everything and it seemed like nothing worked. But one day he decided he wanted to be like his Daddy and from then on did really well, I think you need to find out what your child wants. if candy doesn't work try stickers, or if they like Songs when they try sing a good job song. If your son doesn't seem to be progressing at all take a break and try again after a couple of weeks. I wish you the best of luck.

my 2 1/2 yr. old son is the same way. I have a 5 yr. old and what I did with him is I put him in regular underwear and would reward him with a sticker and when he filled a page (5 then 10) stickers he'd get a treat. It took a while at first but then he got the hang of it.

Good luck!

i dont have a son but my 2 1/2 yr old daughter is stubborn as well. We got her a plain small  potty and she wouldnt go on it at all. Then we bought her one that was a little leap froggy and she liked that and goes on it more. Also, rewarding them with a peice of candy after they go helps.
