Screaming squealing toddler?

I am a SAHM of a 13 month old. He is generally very well behaved and well adjusted. Lately he has started squealing at the top of his lungs when he wants food or attention, at home and when we are out in public. I have tried telling him no, I have tried ignoring him when he does it. Nothing is really working. I am not really sure if he understands no yet but I don't want to encourage this behavior. Any suggestions?

I agree with Hannah, he is probably just trying to get his point across...I ask my little guy to use his words to tell works really well as it breaks his concentration on squealing and challenges him a little..good luck

I am going to guess that he is squealing because that is his most effective mode of communication. Try teaching him some Baby sign for things like Food, water, milk, more. This may alleviate some of his frustration. Speak to him calmly, showing him the behavior you want him to exhibit.
