I have a 2 year old son who has zero interest in self feeding, but only with a spoon. If he has a fork, and it is something that he can stab, or pick up with his fingers he does just fine. As soon as I suggest that he try the spoon he gets really upset! He used to let me help (hold my hand over his while he held the spoon) and I thought that was at least a start.. but he's completely backed off of that. Any ideas?

I will try the spork, it seems that if he can stab it, he does great, but anything that requires scooping, and he gets really frustrated. He doesn't like to be messy, so he won't even use just his hands to get what he wants.

Just keep doing what your doing but always have the spoon in his reach. One day he will pick it up and use it. My son was like that and still favors the fork but now understands that the spoon works better with the applesauce, pudding, cereal, ex...

I agree with the other mom's, try the spoon/ fork combo from Nuby or the Walmart brand. My daughter loves them. They have them in the baby isle, usually where the bottles and cups are.

I usually let my daughter use her hands or whatever she wanted in the beginning, as long as it gets the job done. As long as she's eating and that's most important thing I don't make a big deal about the utensils. Now that she's 2 1/2 years old, she always asks for a spoon or a fork.

I use the plastic forks from the paper plate section, they are winnie the pooh and are washable..
