He's testing you. Sounds like he is throwing a tantrum in an attempt to get his way. Don't give in and you can ignore the tantrum. My son use to the do the same thing. It's hard for them when they are little like that and can't express their feeling using words. It's only natural that they are going to get frustrated and cry.

He's 16 months old. He's not playing you he's just trying to figure out how life works. Just be gentle, kind and sensitive with him. He's crying because he needs you and he can't figure things out by himself. Pick him up, enjoy him and relax, he will be a little man soon enough.

He is just frustrated as he knows the word no by now. My 17 month old daughter does the same but I ignore her whilst she has a wobbler and she is starting to understand that crying does not get her way and I still mean no. Your son is not sensative he is just testing the boundaries. Stay firm and he will get the message that he can't get his own way. Tough love I am afraid.

My 16 month old son is the exact same way. I let him have his tantrum for a few minutes and then rub his back and try to pick him up and snuggle him. He's not a manipulator, just frustrated.

Sounds like temper tantrums to me! Comfort him and if he carries on, ignore it.
