My baby boy (18months) has a vocabulary of almost a 100 words and understand much more, but not able to say them yet. How many should he be able to say?

I've no idea what is 'normal' by 18 months but my 16 month old says mama, dada, hiya and tries to say something that sounds a bit like thank you, but other than those few words, it's just lots of babbling and noises. I highly doubt he will have reached 100 words in the next 8 weeks but I'm really not bothered at all. He will do things when he's ready to do it. I really wouldn't worry about it at all - if he's already able to say 100 words, then that sounds very advanced to me.

My son is 2 years and 3 and 1/2 months old. At 18 months he had about 200 words and was talking in 3-4 word sentences. He is now having full conversations and understands everything that is said. Like Lee Price said every child learns at their own time. Your little one is doing fine and is above normal and have fun with the conversations you all will have.

gosh my little girl is 2 and a half now but by 18 months she was saying at least one hundred words. We have full conversations with her now and she talks on the phone to family very well. Every child is different though and they all learn at their own time, the same as with toilet training I suppose. You should be happy your little fella is talking so well and has a good understanding of things,. The time you put into them is well worth it.

my daughter (20 months) does "your baby can read" and i spend even more time teaching her everything off the movies etc. but she knows and can say more words then i even know! she just started counting to ten. she doesnt know what a 1 or a 3 looks like im sure but she will count with me i know that. i also started her off doing sign and that helped a lot i think with her understanding words had a meaning... does that make sence?
