Sleep problems

My 4-year-old daughter started waking me up around 5 times per night. She just screams out my name several times and I go check on her and she is asleep. My 16 month old still wakes me up once or twice. I feel terrible because of the lack of sleep. Any suggestions?

Katie,  I unfortunately don't have a good suggestion either but am pretty sure she is either dreaming or in some sort of growth phase that makes her uncomfortable and wakes her up for brief periods.  If she does not have it already you could try putting her to sleep with a special blanket or toy and tell her to hug it tight if she wakes up or does not feel good.  At 4 she should also be old enough for you to talk about if she recalls waking up and talk about that she needs to sleep at night and should call you only if something is wrong.  Maybe put a nightlight back in her room or a cup of water - anything you can think of that may increase her comfort level and distract her from just calling out for you.
