My baby slept through the night for the first 8 months. she is now 11 months and is staying up later (until 11 pm, she used to go to bed at 9:30) and is waking up in the middle of the night. Is this a stage, or what...??

I would also recommend trying an earlier bedtime. Also, how many naps is she taking during the day. At around 1 year my son seemed to be ready for only one nap. Furthermore, she may be coming up on another milestone. Kids often start sleeping more restlessly right before they start rolling over, sitting up, crawling, standing up and particularly before they start walking. She may turn out to be an early walker!

It sounds crazy but an earlier bedtime might do the trick. We had problems with our son and it wasn't until we kept moving his bedtime back (15 to 30 min increments per night) and letting him cry it out (yes it is hard but it won't kill you or her) that he finally would sleep through the night. It took about a week. She may be waking up just because she is in the habit not because she needs anything. I have recommended the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Dr. Marc Weissbluth many times on this site because it was a lifesaver to us. The suggestions will work and you will have a happy well rested child once again. Best wishes.

My 9 mo. old son is going through this right now. It's so frustrating b/c he was sleeping 10-11 hrs. a night. Now he's getting up every night around 3:00. He acts like he's starving. Must be a growth spurt. Who knows?

my wee boy is 2 and a half and still wakes during the night. the biggest mistake i made was everytime he woke up i gave him milk then it turned into a habbit. he only wakes up occasionally now and its a case of sayin go back to sleep like a big boy x
