hi there i need some advise if anyone can help...

i collected my 3-year-old from his nursery yesterday at 11:30am and when we got him home my husband found a mark on his neck, This mark is a long STRAIGHT line that runs right round his neck and is very red and painfull....

How can a 3-year-old get such a mark? it is just like he has had something like a shoe lace around his neck (although mark is long its not at all wide) and pulled very tight.....

should i go straigh to the head or confront the nursery? and also its a nasty mark can the school ring social on us if they think he did it at home......./Although he never had it one the way into school and defo had in on collection from school and was certainly not done my us at home

please help a very worried mam

i have a pic of this mark if anyone wants to see if to have a look what they think it my be let me no

I would file a report with your police dept. Let them contact social services and start an investigation of the nursery.

whenever there is a possibility of injury to a child, a good daycare will act on it instead of insinuating that it happened at home.

If it was an accident between two children, I think you just need to get to the bottom of it and ensure that anything inappropriate (e.g. inappropriate behaviour by the other child, unacceptable "toys") is addressed. If you have any suspicion that it was anything more than that, you should get the injury documented by your child's doctor and take pictures just in case you need to show proof that something happened. If it was just an accident, then your daycare provider or teacher should have immediately and unashamedly told you what happened as soon as you picked up your son. Whenever I pick up my son from daycare, I get a quick 60-second rundown of what happened during the day. Just last week, my son ended up with scratches on his forehead which were explained quickly and without alarm.

YOU NEED TO CALL THE POLICE RIGHT NOW. Do NOT send him to school today

Whoever that was needs to go to jail.

I run a home daycare and that stuff should NEVER be happening. GOD I WOULD LOVE TO HANG PEOPLE LIKE THAT.

Quoting Rebecca:

Quoting Jacqueline:

go to the head person there, also I would go to the police as well.

i have a meeting with the head teacher today so will see what she has to say.

i am not sure i should call the police as the school had sorted it out and it was the kids playing not killing eachother although my son could have been easly killed

Good luck and be strong :)

thanks guys for aur comments.
i can say i when and spoke to the school about and they got the the bottom of it now and found out that a boy had put a necklace around my sons neck and pulled it very tightly causing it to mark his neck very badly, he has a friction burn from it.
although the school have delt with it very nicly and they toy in question that caused the damage to my son, i cant help thinking if i should take it further as at the end of the day my son was strangled and it could have been much worse :-S

I think you should take it further.  I agree it could have been much worse and the parents must be made aware of what happened and the school/crèche where you son is should also be questioned.  How can something like this happen in a place where the kids are always watched?  Where was the teacher when all of this happened and if the teacher did see it happen why did they not tell you when you picked your son up that day.  I know what your going through as I went through something similar with my daughter when she was just over 2.

Good luck

Call the director and teacher right away. Even if the teacher didn't see it happen, why didn't she notice it later and call you? I know it's scary, but don't worry about social right now. You need to protect your child by getting to the bottom of this.

agree, call the school back, or go in to see the manager/head teacher. Take your son, or print out pictures to take. if you dont want him to go. It could have been kids playing too, BUT the teacher should have told you about it, if she noticed.

either way, i'd be asking, then possibly looking for a new daycare

I would go straight to the top with this one. And do it quickly, that way they can't come back and say it was you. I'm not sure how bad it is, but I would probaly take him to the doctor too, just to be sure. Best of luck to you with this.
