We taught our kids that the only thing that goes in their ears is their elbow. Physically impossible, I know, but they think it's hilarious to try. RIght now we're enforcing it for the nose, also. It's a normal toddler thing to do. Like Jessica said, if it's as big or bigger than his finger, don't panic.

My son loves to copy any bathroom ritual that he sees mommy or daddy do. His favorites include "cleaning" his ears. Which freaks me out. I clean his ears for him and although he does have very waxy ears, I really think hes just doing it to do it. So, our bathroom door stay closed, my rule of thumb: if its as big as or bigger than his finger, I dont panic :)

did they check his hearing at his last doc appt? Just wondering since you said he wasn't speaking as you thought he should. maybe he can't hear it well to learn the phonetics? i've never had a kiddo stick anything in their ears. sorry. i'm not much help. also, my sis just had her daughter's ear irrigated -doc said she cleaned it TOO much and actually pushed wax back in and made it harder to hear.
