Struggling with potty training

My son is 3 1/2 and is very stubborn when it comes to going potty. He won't stop what he is doing to go and doesn't seem to care if he stays wet. My son is smart, and I know he understands the concept. Has anyone had any luck with reusable plastic training pants? Pull-ups are getting too expensive and don't seem to motivate him into going. I would love some suggestions.

I know how you feel my 3 1/2 year old daughter is the same, and i tried the rewards, the undies, the running a round naked and all that stuff and she was doing great and suddenly she just stopped a couple months ago and now wont even try, even if i remind her every 10-20 mins or if the potty is right beside her she will still pee or poop in her pants, I even bring her to the bathroom with me when i have to go, but still nothing and i am getting very frusterated, literally nothing is getting her to go, i even resorted to taking her toys away but still same thing, and im out of ideas, and i really could use some extra help, as i also have a 16 mos old that i have to start training in the next little while.

my son is 2 1/2 and has been potty trained since about a month after he turned 2. i never once used pull ups. when i was home with him during the day and weekends, i put him in underwear. of course, there were accidents, as there is going to be, but i'd say within a week he was trained. to me, pull ups are just like diapers, only more expensive! he wears a diaper to bed, & sometimes for nap, but that's it!! :) so no pull ups at all worked for me!!
