Switching from crib to toddler bed! Any suggestions?

I have a 15 month daughter and she has been chewing on her crib and trying to climb out so I think she is ready for a toddler bed! Wanted to get some suggestions on how to do it and what seems to work best so she will stay in the bed and not get up until I come in to get her!?

I have both the toddler bed and crib set up and I let my daughter choose which one to sleep in. Now she just goes to her toddler bed and stays in it all night. However be ready for her to climb in and out of the toddler bed. My 22 month old didn't climb out of her crib but we are due in May with our second so I had to transition our oldest to a toddler bed and that is how we did it.

We just put our daughter into a big girl bed this past weekend and she LOVES it!  We made sure she was there while we took down her crib so it wasn't a shock when she no longer had the only bed she'd known.  She helped me pick out a new blanket for her big girl bed and this got her excited.  She was also there when we set up the toddler bed and I think her involvement helped with the transition.

As far as having her stay in bed, we just remind her every nap time and every bed time that she needs to call us when she wakes up.  Of course she didn't the first day and when she wandered out, we took her by the hand, and put her back in bed.  We reminder her to call us when she wakes up.  She now does that every time! :o)

Good luck!

we have just put our son into a single bed from the cot, we brought him a whole new bedroom suite with a car bed (we were renovating anyway) it is a good idea to take your child with you when shopping for the new bed and to keep telling your child that they will be moving into a big kids bed soon. Once we made the change when it was bed time me and my hubby sat in his room with him and explained that he would be sleeping in the new bed from now on. There was some crying involved but it only lasted 5 minutes if that.  Also my son was really attached to his balnkets and pillowcase and wouldnt have anything to do with his new duvet and pillowcase so what I did was took his new duvet cover off each nite and gave him his cot blankets while leaving his duvet on the floor next to his bed and i put the pillow case under his pillow with a little sticking out so he could see it. It took 3 nights of doing this and on the 4th night he asked to have the duvet cover on the bed too. over the next week I slowly took his cot blankets away so he couldnt see them and he now sleeps fine in his bed. Also it takes a while for them to realise that they can actually get out o the bed all on their own, my son knows he can get out but doesnt until Iopen the door each morning (he refuses to sleep with door open)

My son refuses to sleep anywhere except for his own bed or in the car seat so I thought changing from cot to bed was going to be really hard but it was the easiest thing ever.

Good luck let me know how you go.

We have one of the life time beds. The crib converts to a day bed style. My kids enjoyed sleeping the day bed. They didn't fall out very often. My daughter was always an early morning riser so I showed her on the clock when she could get out. She was about 18 months. Good luck.
