Talking Toddlers?

My 20month old son doesn't seem to be talking as much as my friends son, who is almost 8 months younger than him. Is this something genetic? I read to him almost everyday because I would love for him to start talking, but its almost like he refuses to. He's been saying "dada" and "momma" for almost the past 12 months. He'll say "bubba" and "car" sometimes as well. All of his other milestones were fairly right for a baby his age. He started walking when he was around a year old, and got his first two teeth in right about the same time. He's been eating with a fork and drinking out of a big boy cup for maybe the last six months...but this is the only thing we seem to be struggling with. Does anyone have any suggestions...or how old was your child when they began talking?

My 22 month old just babbles and I can't understand a word he says. I think if they aren't talking by the time they are 3 then there maybe some concern but I am sure he will talk when he is ready.
