My son is 15 months old. He is just starting to experience new things and I encourage this. One experience is letting him explore when we are at the mall. He walks by himself. The problem is when we have to go he doesnt want to. When I pick him up he starts to scream and go limp. I didnt think I would have to be dealing with this problem already. How do you deal with this situation when he is too young to understand?

Hi kate...believe me at 15 mths they understand more than u think..hence y he throws a tanty when ur trying to leave...:) my son did it a couple of times but i just take him away from the situation screaming and yelling (to the car)..dont worry what other pple think or what look u get...dont try to console him at the time he's screaming..just let him be....be u leave the carpark...if and when he stops screaming...get down to his level..look him in the eye and say..."mummy understand you are upset and fustrated that u we have to leave but we'll come back again anothe day"..give him a kiss and if he knowledge what u say for eg a nod then u need to say "good listening"....depending on the child temprament it could take the one time and it could take a few times...good luck..
