Thumb Sucking

My two year old is sucking his thumb so much and so hard it is making sores and blisters. I tried to put an Elmo bandaid on it to distract him, but he just switched hands. Bandaged the other thumb and he started sucking on his fingers and now his whole hand. I am putting socks on his hands for part of the day to limit access to them but don't want to keep him from using his hands. Any other suggestions?

Try the THUM product to discourage the sucking and give him back the use of his hands and see if that works!

The thumb sucking didn't bother me until he started causing sores. I am just trying to get him to stop sucking them so hard.

Tammy, is your goal to get him to stop sucking all together or is it to limit the sores? I would think that 2 is really young to force a not sucking totally act, but then I am comfortable with 4 of my5 beingthumb suckers into their late 3's. If it is to prevent the sores, there is this nail polish like stuff called THUM I believe which will discourage him from using those fingers. You paint it on his nails I think it has cayanne pepper in it. You can find it at most drug stores. I hope this helps
