My 1 year old is not walking freely yet. He will pull up, crawl, and walk with assistance. He loves to fall on his butt and face. That's got to be a boy thing. When do babies usually take their first steps? I read in the What to expect the first year that he should have by now freely.

My son who is now almost 4 didnt walk till he was 19 months old! He walked on his knees and he got around very fast despite the fact that we had seen him walk once in a great while, he still couldnt get used to the idea! His doctor said average age for walking is 10 to 14 months of age! All kids r different but if u r concerned then talk to ur doctor! As a mother of 3 I dont know it all but I have experienced alot with my children! If he still isnt walking when he approaches the 14 month marker then a few things to consider would maybe be sensory, for example my son didnt like things including the floor to touch his feet.....still to this day his socks have to b positioned just perfect on his feet and many more little things that would make him uncomfortable! I would wait it out but there r lots of different things to consider if you still feel that they r falling behind in a few months! Good luck!

my daughter walked at 9 months and a friends baby who is 5 days older then my daughter started walking 15 month's so all babys walk when there ready because my daughter was a month early and the dr's told me she would be behide all other babys her age but that hasnt been the case . and be thankful he is still crawling because once he starts walking your world will change and will wish he was crawling again . good luck

Yeah, my 2 and a half year old didn't walk until he was 16 months old. My doctor said anywhere from 10 months to 18 months is normal. And the falling is totally a boy thing! Mine is still stumbling and falling over his own two feet all the time! But don't worry, there is a very wide range of what is considered "normal".

my daughter started walking at 11 months but your son is not necessarily late. all babies are different and all do things at their own pace. and trust me dont rush it because once he starts running around you're gonna wish he was still crawling LOL

Not necessarily. My firstborn didn't walk until he was 15 months and a friend's daughter was 18 months. It sounds like your son is on his way to walking though, so don't worry.
