I think i might just be worrying to much i know kids hit different milestones at different ages but now its starting to bug me a little

my daughter will be 20months old on the 1st

she has never said "no" but she will shake her head and shake her finger no

daily she says:

nono (nose)

si (yes in spanish)

teese (please) (and thank you)

but she will also say

air (hair)

bowbow (eyebrow).

she cant throw a ball underhand but she can overhand

she has never rolled a ball (but im sure she could)

she CAN help around the house e. throw garbage away "sweep" pick droped food up and put up on the table

she cant take any clothes off besides her diaper and shoes

is she behind? i get monthly emails from and the milestone chart for her age says most kids can take off clothes ("mastered skill") and half of kids her age learn 10 or MORE words a day! my daughter hasnt learned a new word for almost a month

anyways i guess im just asking at 20months what could your child do? do you think my daughters behind? should i talk to her doc. about this?

I think those milestone charts are crap. Your daughter sounds fine to me. I am waiting to get another milestone chart that will ask me if my 3 yr old can do calculus, and if not then he's behind.

She sounds perfect. Next "milestone email" you get go to the bottom and hit unsubscribe. Those things are just designed to give parents anxiety I think.

my son only started to say no this past month and hes 22 months. i miss the time he didn't say it. we always say no thank you he hes doing something he knows hes not supost to. my frieds little girl taught him that word. it will all come in time. he doesn't talk well at all..... in fact i think your daughters says a lot more words than he does. the doctors don't worry about speach (not sure where your from but in ontario, canada) they told me they wont do anything til they are 2 and not saying 3 words. dont worry- when she does start- you will miss the days like these. i worry a lot some days as well- but they grow up so fast. as long as you see a little change here and there, shes fine!

haha thanks for the reply i guess you right about understanding 10 new words not speaking them.
im glad she hasnt said no yet but i dont say it to her i just shake my head and finger and tell her what shes doing is bad

but anyway chirstina thank you im starting to hate these monthly "milestone chart things" every month i worry for no reason.. i saw starting to wonder how a 20month old can learn to speak 10 new words a day lol

She sounds perfectly normal to me. None of my kids had "mastered" taking their clothes off by 20 months. Heck, my 5 year old still screams and throws a fit when she can't get a shirt off. Also, all my kids threw a ball overhand only at that age. By learning 10 words a day, they might just mean they are learning the meaning of ten new words a day - not actually using them yet. If you haven't been yet, you'll be very surprised at the number of words she understands and knows. One day a whole bunch will just come spilling out! As for not saying "no", she doesn't NEED to. You understand her when she shakes her head, so that's good enough for her. Probably the first time you hear it it will be directed AT you when she's being sassy! :)
