Toddler who hits. Any suggestions?

My 2 1/2 yr old daughter has been hitting my husband and myself in the face when she is tired or unhappy. It doesn't happen everyday but it needs to stop. She's knows she shouldn't do this because as soon as she does it, we both make a disapproving face and say "NO!" and she immediately starts to cry. We tell her "we don't hit people." We make her say sorry to us and give hugs and then everything is fine. The problem is, it keeps happening. I know this is a phase but I would like to nip it in the bud now before she starts hitting other people. I would love to hear some suggestions on what to do about this. Please help!

My son is also 2 1/2yrs old and going through the same phase. What we do is as soon as we see him raise his hands we quickly grab them and say no hitting it hurts. He does get mad but it seems as if he is starting to learn from it. He is definitely doing it less and less. I believe repetition is the best way. Discpline a this age as I don't believe it will work because they are learning new things every day and I don't think they grasp the idea of discipline. They are just starting to learn the difference between right and wrong, yes and no. Just keep doing what you are doing it will get better.
