My daughter is two years and three months old and we think she's ready to start being toilet trained but we're not sure where to start. What should we do?

Thank you for your stories, ideas and support. We have a potty and for the last two nights, she's been happy to sit on it while reading or watching TV, although there has been nothing left in the potty yet! Next week when we're at home we're going to start her in no nappies during the day. We've also got a potty progress chart and we'll be decorating a jar of treats which will be rewards for when she actually uses the potty like a big girl does!!

I first got a new potty chair for my kids and let them play with it for a while out with their other toys, just to get used to it and so they won't be afraid of it. Then I went on the hunt for kid books to read to them at night, so they would sort of know how it worked. Also letting them flush the real toilet helps them not to be afraid too. You have to be consistent and take them every 1-2 hours. If they aren't letting you know when they have to go, I usually will try to watch and see if they have an area in the house where they like to hide and go in their diaper. When you see this happen, hurry and bring them into the bathroom. It's an extremely frustrating process, just try to stay relaxed and never punish them for making messes or accidents. I've got my 3yr old totally done, my 4 yr old we're still working on bedwetting, and my 16 month old hasn't begun yet. Good Luck ;) Stay positive, stickers, m&m's, potty charts really help!!

hello katherine...my name is sharon and i was just like u,that i didnt know where to start.but wot i ended up doing was put my son in pants in the day and pull ups at nite.....no nappy's at all in the day (when u make that choice stick to it) we did have alot of washing but deffo worth it in the long run....

started morning..get up go for a wee wee and say ur a big boy now and u do a wee wee in the toilet just like mummy and daddy, put pants on and every 10 mins just keep asking do u need a wee wee....after a few days or weeks cael started to learn u do a wee wee in the toilet.when he did go in the toilet lots of praise and when he didnt make it we just said oh well never mind......next time...( if we found him starting to do a wee wee,we did try to put him onto the toilet...)

hope this helps...cael was about 2years when we started and hes nearly 3 now.....
