My son is 2 1/2 years old. He will not use a fork to save my life. The first thing he does when he gets to the dinner table is throw the fork (or spoon) on the floor, it seems he would rather use his hands. My husband and I have tried showing him how to use it several times, but he is just not interested. Any ideas?

I have been giving him a fork or spoon since he started feeding himself. My girls were so much easier and less stubborn, haha. Its a little harder to explain things to him because he also has a hearing impairment along with being stubborn. Thank you for responding. :)

My first question is when did you start giving him a fork and/or spoon.....it may be that you didn't start early enough or he is just stubborn.....I give my 22 month old a fork and sometimes he uses it and sometimes he doesn't.....even my 3 1/2 year old does this sometimes(usually he does use it to begin then gets tired and uses his hands)....just keep trying, but let him know at the same time that throwing silverware is NOT okay that he could hurt someone....other than that hang in there, be consistent and GOOD LUCK!!

Maybe let him be at home, and let him know that in public places like restaurants etc., he has too... try explaining manners to him etc., and what it means to be polite and how using his hands is not polite etc., Sooner or later he will do it! ;) Good luck!
