What do you do when your toddler won't sleep?

This morning has been long, tiring and a frustrating to be honest. My 17 month old woke up either at 2 am or before. Doesn't really matter as it was way too early. I tried everything that usually works. Nappy change, water, medicine and cuddling/rocking. She teething at the moment so when it is bad, we have this problem. I've had 3 or 4 hours of sleep and we are leaving for long haul flight soon. I know we both need our sleep. Somehow she always seems to know when something important is suppose to happen as she acts up the night before.

Now that it has been several hours, I've played with her a little, changed more nappies and given her an early breakfast as I realized I was hungry and she was too. She's watching her dvd at the moment. I'm barely able to keep my eyes open, but I'm on here to see if any other moms are up too.

When my son was doing that, I did the same as you, and put him back to bed as soon as I could. Since I started telling him to "stay in bed until the sun comes up", he does just that. In the beginning I would point to his window, rewording it a few times, so that he would understand for sure. He was 21 months when I started telling him that, ever since then he doesn't get up during the night. You will get there, I wish you some sleep.
