my son will be 2 in august. he started pulling at his diaper when it was wet or dirty, so i thought we should start! also, i teach...so i have the whole summer to get into a routine! he's doing very well, and tells me when he wants to go. well...right now he mostly just wants to read on the potty, but he's actually gone a couple times. so many people have said it's too early, but i think he's ready. start small though. i got a book from state farm...your child, birth to 5 years...something like that. start very small...letting him./her sit on the potty fully clothed, just to introduce him/her to it. then move up from there. it's been a great resource to me if you can get your hands on a copy!

I started both mine between 15 and 18 months but didnt get really serious about it until they were closer to 2. My son was completly trained at 2 1/2 and my daughter is almost 2 1/2 now and she is doing super well so 2 is perfect to REALLY try! But also make it fun for them and make sure they are showing interest in it you know? Do stickers, candy, cookies as a reward it helps :)
