Well mine really didn't grasp it til after he had turned 3 yrs old. He got the number one down in a matter of weeks. His teacher asked him to see how many bubbles he could make in the potty. He didn't get the other down til a few months later. I have also heard of making it into an aiming game using cheerios in the potty.

Our son is 15 months and is in the process of being potty trained. I think that the right time to start varies from child to child. Our son started to show signs of being ready a couple of weeks ago and has gone #2 several times in the big boy potty ever since :) If you notice that your son has to go to the bathroom take him into the bathroom and let him go on the toilet. We bought an insert that goes directly onto the adult toilet rather than the little child potty that you can buy, I look at it as one less transition later on. Good luck!
