Ok so I know all kids have tons of energy but even mothers of 5 say they don't know how I keep up with my 1 and 3 year olds. They have so much fuel to blow I don't know what to do. I live in super hot weather so playing outside isn't always feasable...we do the pool but can't stay too long. There is one car in this house hold and it's gone during the day while the hubby is at work...I've tried coloring and playing with toys, tv, reading and running all over the house with the kids. In the very near future the oldest will start preschool and dance or something along those lines but what to do until then...any ideas on how to keep young children occupied? Also they always want what the other has. I'm running out of ideas here

Do you know how to make play doh and slime (recipes are on the internet).? Slime is messy so I recommending playing with it in the bathroom so clean up is easier.
I find a sheet of stickers is great, stick it on to paper and draw around it.
Painting on windows or mirrors is always a novelty.
Science experiments, you should be able to find some on the internet, like the backing soda and vinegar volcano (simple enough for the little ones).
Dress ups or the 3 year old could do a puppet show for the 1 year old.

Hope those ideas help.

If it's too hot to stay outside much maybe you could carpool with other mums or take a bus to somewhere cool - how about the musuem, library, art gallery, mall etc?

Thanks for the ideas but we live in an apartment so no back yard and we only have on car which is gone all day long. Not that I could drive it anyways..it's stick. I live in Arizona and it's in the 100's a lot. I take my kids out for a few minutes but still they are so cooped inside a lot.

See if your town has any organized play groups that you can take them to. Try the Family Resource Center if there is one.
