My daugther is 15 months and I would like to start with potty training around 18 months. Would that be too soon?

I have a daughter and we started fairly early (about 12 months) with potty training just to familiarize her with the concept. Before we even bought a potty, I started emphasizing when she had a clean diaper and when she didn't. When she did poop, I would say "You have poopy in her diaper" and same for urine. and made her familiar with the difference between the two. I would also have her come in the bathroom with me and watch mommy go potty. And pointed out that the toilet was a "potty" for pee and poopy. Soon, she became good with the words and was able to tell me what was in her diaper. I tried to show her and said "eww and yucky" in a cute voice when we changed her diaper to make her want to have clean diapers on. Few weeks later, she started coming to me and tugged on her dirty diaper, telling me she was uncomfortable. Then we brought the potty home. Put it next to the adult potty and showed her they were the same but hers was little girl sized. The best way to do it is take an entire day and dedicate it to the potty. Take off her diaper in the morning and sit her on the potty. Have breakfast on the potty, drink, everything. Play games, patty-cake, anything. Give her breaks in between to run around and burn off energy. But go right back to the potty and when and if she does anything in the potty, make it the biggest celebration ever! Embrace it and say wow you did peepee! good jobbbb!! Not everyone wants to spend time with their child on the potty for a whole day but it really helps. I picked a day when both me and my fiance were home. So we would take turns sitting with her.

All kids are different and ready at different stages. If she is showing signs of interest, watching you to get her started will help. If she gets really upset when you put her on the potty.. it may be too soon. If she looks at it as a negative it may take longer to train than if she is comfortable with it. You can always try again every few months until she seems more at ease.

you can start anytime, getting her used to sitting on the potty.don't force her though, let her sit on it when she wants and encourage her when you know she is most likely to do something eg. after she has eaten or when she wakes up.
