I have a 10 month old and I just need to know when other people started putting blankets in with their baby to sleep?

we always used a blanket on our son. Once he started rolling over he always got out under it.

I don't use any type of cover for my son because he kicks it off almost immediately. I do keep a child sized afghan in his crib in case he decides to cover himself. I have just made sure he was dressed in warm bed clothes...usually a short sleeved onsie or shirt, socks and a sleeper. Now that he is three, a long sleeved shirt, sweat pants and socks seems to be enough. He is moving to a real bed in a few days, but I doubt he will start covering up anytime soon.

U want to put a blanket in when the child is able to kick it off or pull it off their face. You don't want to chance it if the child's little hand lifts the blanket and it goes on their face and they start rolling around in the crib trying to get it off and you may not hear them, and they may get tangled in it. I waited till my child was about 19 months.

My son is 2 and he has had his blanket in his bed with him since we was about 6 months old, I just think that it is when you feel comfortable.

I started at a year. My daughter was walking, sitting etc and I didn't think that it was a problem at that point.

i have a 6yr old and a 8 mth old, their dr. told me to wait until at least a year old or when they are turning over really well. and like tanya i do not think there is really a right answer. you have to be the to make that choice.

I havent heard of any safety issues to do with blankets and babies. The only thing we were told was not to use duvets or cot bumpers as they can suffocate babies or make them overheat. I used blankets on our son from newborn and just made sure they were tucked in tight and not too close to his face.

I don't know what the "right" answer is to this. My son is almost 16 months old and we used sleep sacks through the winter. I'm not so afraid now of what's in his crib... He has 4 stuffed animals in his crib, and he always has his burp cloth beside him when he sleeps. The only blanket I'll put in his crib at this point is a crocheted blanket. It has lots of holes in it so I'm not worried about him burying his face in it, but it's still there to give him warmth. That said, my son moves around so much at night that blankets don't stay on him anyway, so when the cooler nights are here, we'll be using a sleep sack again.
