I have a 13 month old son and I was wondering when the best time (age) is to start potty training? I already have the potty and he loves to sit on it since it sings. I just want to know when I can try. Kristin

My daughter and son weren't interested until almost 3. If they wake up with a dry diaper put him on the potty right away. That is how my son was. My daughter never wanted to have an accident so she was a little more difficult. They both liked sitting on the potty around the 18 month mark. He will let you know.

My son started getting potty trained when he was 2, he is now 3 and has finally got it. Still has the odd accident, and it totally drives me crazy. I think I should have waited longer, because after a year of doing this, I lose patience with him very easily. Like, "You should know this by now!!"...

My daughter has started potty training just yesterday. I wanted to wait until the summer after she turned 2 since it would be easier, and I wouldn't have to worry about her regressing when the baby is born in May... but she's been asking to go, and when I put her there, she goes! I have her in underwear whenever we are at home, and ask her every 15 mins if she has to go potty. She has also been taking her clothes off and putting them on for a while now. I would say to put your son in underwear and if he notices that he's wet, then you can start slowly training him... if he doesn't notice, then he's not ready at all and is only interested in the singing of the chair.

My son is 2.5 years old and has no interest in potty training. It did bother me, but then I had to remind myself of a few things; he's a boy and they seem to take a little longer sometimes, he's first born, and he'll let me know when he's ready. We are very encouraging to have him try it, but he's just flat out not ready. It would be an uphill battle to try to make him use it right now. I have also read that if your toddler has a fresh diaper on before nap and wakes up dry their ready to start training. My advice would be to watch his cues and he'll be sure to let you know. You want this to be a good experience for all of you.

I started putting my daughter on the toilet around 4 months every once in a while just to get her use to the feel so she would be more ready. When she was up and moving at a year I would let her run in the house w/out a diaper when no one else was around and this would help her to hold it and relize what happens and at just past two she was pottied.

My little girl Claire has the same potty!!! I kept it in the bathroom for months and put her on it every day...but she never used it until she was about 22 months old, she just turned 2 and is really getting the hang of it, I asked my pediatrician and she said anywhere from 18 months and up, before that there bladders do not have enough control, although this opinion is not shared by all. Most people say you will "know" when they are ready by their actions, holding themselves, not wanting to be wet/dirty. My advice is, its never to early to try...they will let you know if they are not ready, if he is olny 13 months old you still have lots of time...I would't push him as it may do more harm then good. Hope this helps and best of luck to you and your little man
