i put my 4 year old to bed at 7:30 in the evening and he gets up at 5am. he doesnt have a nap during the day.

he has a very active day he goes to pre school 5 mornings a week walking the 30 min walk there and back.

weather depending we go to the park in the afternoon if not we play games inside the house but i cannot understand why he wakes so early in the morning any ideas are most welcome.

thanks

My nephew (who lives with me temporarily) is 4 and his bed time is 9pm..He's allowed to play up untill 8:45 then it time to get on jammies and gives hugs and kisses and get juice. Then we read one book. He NEVER gets up before 8am. My two year old son has the same routine. It's nice plus if the boys wake up early they just come and curl up with me and sleep for a little while longer!

Well unfortunately the sun starting to come up earlier and those noisy birds chirping don't help.

Okay so he is roughly sleeping 9.5 hours a night. This might sound odd, but try adding a nap/rest time into your afternoon (don't worry if he doesn't sleep, and encourage book reading). This should not be longer then 45minutes to an hour max given his age. Then try moving bedtime to 8 or 830pm and see what happens.

The rest in the afternoon generally helps children recharge and prepare for the rest of the day. It also feels more natural then trying to stay up and on the go from the time we get up. Also for his age he's a little bit short on the recommended hours of sleep which is 11-13 hours for 3-5 year olds.

The break in the afternoon might allow him to recharge and stay up a little later and then settle better for the night.

Otherwise I am not very helpful. :\

Good luck!
