I think that if that's how she needs to go to sleep right now that's fine. There will come a time when she doesn't want to nurse to sleep anymore but for now she's only 5 months old. Still very much a baby. My oldest nursed to sleep for a whole lot longer than that but one day she just stopped. She started nursing then rolling over and falling asleep on her own. They all do it in their own time.

Quoting Heather:

Do you have a sling so you can nurse her down to sleep while you keep doing whatever it is you want to do? Can your partner or an older child take over some nighttime chores so you can cuddle in bed with her? I don't understand why you don't want to nurse your five month old.

i never said i didnt want 2 nurse her but yes i want 2 stop by 6 months and get back 2 work, she will not take a pacifier and im glad as my 2 year old still has his, i just think falling asleep on breast is a bad habit

Is your little girl eating solids?

I breastfed my little boy till he was 19 months, he is now 2 1/2.

He wouldnt go to sleep without the breast either, Honestly i though i would never get him off.

But i did... thank god ..

I cut his feeds down one by one over a few months, till the only one he was having was the bed time one, then i offered him a bottle of water instead which he only wanted once and that was the end of it, mind you i have only just gotten him to sleep in his cot (which is still in our room) before i would have to let him fall asleep with me in our bed (Which he slept in for 2 years) i still have to be in the room for him to fall asleep in his cot, but things are getting better, so i dont mind.

Just hang in there and just remember its just a stage they will grow out of.

Have you tried to get a pacifier that is shaped like a nipple? Then you can hold her so she also is soothed by having you around.

Your baby is sweet. I am a mother of 4 kids and your baby is just 5 months old. I have breast fed my babies upto 1 year / 18 months. Babies feel hungry all the time, they need to be breast fed every hour or so, she cries because she is hungry. At six months I gave them top feed of rice and moong dal or masoor dal (lentils) cooked to a pulp in a pressure cooker - fed them 3 times a day so they wouldnt get hungry too often. Babies also like warmth and closeness and will cry for attention (U said she nods off to sleep within minutes) that suggests she wants her mama to hold her and love her. Bonding also takes place when you hold them close, touch them and love them - she will be happy and contended and you can enjoy her gurgles and smiles. Enjoy her, all the best. God bless.
