Worried mum needs some reassurance and advice

[deleted account] ( 1 mom has responded )

My sweet baby boy who is 2.5yrs is going into hospital tomorrow morning for surgery. He's having his adenoids removed and grommets put in both ears. The procedures he's having done aren't worrying me too much, it's the general anaesthetic is what has me worried. He's so small and so precious and I'm petrified something is going to go wrong. I'm afraid I'll pass on my anxiety to him and I don't want that. My husband is totally supportive and I've told him how I feel and to be honest, he's as worried as I am.

How do I keep my cool tomorrow and put on a brave face? How do I reassure him that everything is going to be OK when the worry is written all over my face.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

First, let me say good luck. I hope you understand that it is perfectly normal to have these fears. I've worked in pediatric surgery for a few years now and all the moms are equally as worried. I can not tell you that things don't happen, but they very rarely ever happen to normal, healthy kids like yours. Please, spend as much time as you want speaking with your anesthesiologist in the morning. He/she will be more than happy to answer all of your questions. I'm sure your precious angel will be just fine and I will be thinking of you both tomorrow. Please, message me back to let me know how it all went. :)
