Zit like rash on toddlers bottom

Our son has suffered from a strange rash on his bottom, foreskin and scrotum on and off since he was about one - he is now 2 1/2 and still gets it. When he first got it, it looked like lots of red welts on his bottom which progress to pus-filled pustules. Then they explode and are like red craters which gradually heal over a week or so. Once they explode they give him pain, when he wees as the ammonia stings the open sore and it will often wake him in the night with the pain. The first time I thought the rash was from teething as they seemed to erupt when he was getting new teeth. However now he has finished teething for the last 4 months and he still gets them though not as many. They seemed to be worse using cloth nappies/diapers and clear quicker with disposables. He also does not have so many problems with them hurting during the night as I presume the disposables soak up urine quicker. I have stripped the cloth nappies and wash with hot water using half strength powder. Has anyone seen this type of rash before?

I know what you're going through. My son had a rash over 2 weeks and it got infected. I took him to the pediatrician and put him on antibiotics and it hasn't came back. I tried everything before the antibiotics and nothing worked. I think it would be best if you took him to the doctor in order to get rid of the rash. Try to keep him dry as possible and use baby powder that includes cornstarch in it.

When my son had this type of rash for 2 weeks without going away, the doctor said it was an infection and gave him antibiotics. It went away very quickly and he hasn't gotten it back. Before the antibiotics, we tried all kinds of rash cream and none of it worked. It probably keeps coming back, because without antibiotics, you aren't curing it.
