My husband and I will be taking our then 2 year old daughter on a week-long vacation. We're driving from Texas to Florida and I need TIPS on EVERYTHING! =) I have only met 2 of the people we are meeting there and the rest are strangers to me and our daughter. My husuband's grandmother has rented a HUGE beach house for everyone to stay in and I think there will be at 15 people total. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the best of this trip? Last year I didn't get to enjoy any part of ouur vacation because I had to keep Hayley on schedule and I don't want that to be the case this year. I can't go into this blind. Also... we're going to start TTC in October so I don't know whether to go ahead and try to get Hayley potty trained before the trip (and risk either accidents or having to stop a lot on the way there) or whether to wait and try to train her while I'm possibly pregnant and oober tired. HELP!

Oh let the nap and sleeping schedule go to heck. You'll drive yourself nuts trying to make her schedule match everyone elses. Get her to sleep when you can, if things are just a little bit off from her normal schedule I think its fine to ask if everyone can hold up for an hour or delay an hour so that the baby will be happy on the trip.

OR!!! if there is a babysitter..... We just did Disneyland in California, lol I'm still very giggly about it.

The good thing is that anything we do is very local to the beach house and we won't be doing anything that doesn't have flexible times along with it. My main worry is keeping her on her nap and sleeping schedule. Yikes!

We wanted to go to Disney but it's about a 7 hr drive from Pensacola to Orlando. That's NOT going to happen. =)

Quoting Chelsye:

Quoting Sharon:

What are the plans for while you are at the beachhouse? Just hanging out? Day trips to local attractions? Maybe there is a babysitter available or can be arranged?

I would HATE to be pregnant on a multi person/family vacation. Could you start TTC after the vacation? Or during? ;)

Potty training... ouch... take extra bottoms, training diapers, & a waterproof travel mattress cover.

I hope it all goes well!!

Hey, Sharon,

I think we'll mainly just be hanging out and taking a couple of day trips during that week. I realized  after re-reading my post that it did sound like I'd probably be pregnant on the trip but we won't start trying until after we get back so that won't be a problem.

I'm still debating about the potty training thing, though. I'm really thinking Hayley may not really be ready to start training right now anyway. In a couple of months, it may be different. We'll see.

Thanks!

Well hopefully the potty training thing will resolve itself before you go!

So the last thing is how to have fun on this madhouse trip!!!  LOL - I'm anal about planning, omg if I don't know whats planned for every minute - I start to spazz that we will miss out on something.

I don't know how you are but if you could get at least a tentative itinerary for the plans you could get plan yourself how best to ready your daughter for these day trips.

I hope you have fun!  Any chance you guys are going to do disney while in florida?

Oh wow Chelsye, seems like you're going to have a lot to deal with!

Rather than send a long answer, I think you should pick yourself up a copy of my book: http://www.tinyurl.com/traveling-with-ki... - seriously, we cover everything from planning car trips, to keeping kids entertained in the car and on vacation and managing any potty training issues which come up (I suggest you bring expect accidents, bring pull-ups and use a travel mattress cover).
