My 12 year old son has had the same girlfriend since last year. We have tried everything to make him see that this is to much for a boy of his age, but the fact remains that she is there, so we have talked with him about how another persons emotions are a big responsability and that girls are a lot more emotional than boys. We have held him when she's made him cry, we have let him be when he was mad, called her mom, called the school, and now just moniter it from a distance. He seems to have put up more boundaries on his own and is not letting her be his first priority now that we aren't so forbidding about it anymore.

Well I gave that job to the dad so it would be a little less stressful on him. We have 3 of them. For us, becasue we are Christian, we found a great series of books on Focus on the Family that is progressive and teach's it all! It starts with a book for 3-5 year olds and then the next age bracket and up. finally ending with one for teens that focus' on relationships and how to treat women and care for them since the sex topic was already covered. The nice thing about it is that a book makes sure you cover all the bases. They can read a chapter and then you can have quiet time with them to review it for questions. If you want you can jump ahead and do the older levels or slow it down depending on the child's readiness and maturity level.
