13 months and only taking 5 steps

I know babies do things on their own time but I was wondering if there were any tips or tricks to get my son to walk? He will be 13 months in about a week & he won't take more then about 5 or 6 steps. We have a VERY small house so to he can reach from one thing to another in most parts of the house.

I've tried..
-getting him to walk from one person to another
-walk & play toys
-moving things a little out of his reach so he has to walk....

the list goes on...But half the time he will sit down & then crawl. Any tips?

It is a thing that each child does in there own time. My 1st walked by 12 months where as my second started walking around 13 months mark but was walking properly till about 16 months. He will do it soon :) Hang in there once they start running around you cant stop them lol But I must say I do love hving my girls walking I find it alot easier :)

My guy didn't take his first steps in front of me until he was 14 months old. He is still a very cautious guy about EVERYTHING but just know that it will come with time. The fact that he is taking some steps just means he is a late bloomer :)

A long car trip! My son was 18 months before he took to walking - he was a preemie, but more than that, he was VERY cautions. He had a little Elmo walker he walked with and would walk with a finger on the wall or on furniture - not that he couldn't walk but that he just thought he couldn't I guess. We had a family reunion to go to - a 4 hour car trip down, spent a day there and then a 4 hour car trip home. When we got back, he started walking - he walked about 20 steps back and forth to my husband - probably praising God with each step that he was out of the car seat! lol!!! As for your son, he can walk and is just choosing not to - he will as soon as it becomes important to him. Just enjoy each stage :)

My son was almost 18 months before he was fully walking. But, he talked early and they say often early talkers will be late walkers.
You have nothing to worry about and should let him get comfortable walking in his own time.

My first daughter only started walking at 13 months, my second started a 11 months.......Let it be! He'll do it when he's good and ready and feels secure :)

I know all kids are different..I'm not stressing about it & I'm not trying to push him to do anything. I know he can walk. He has proved it several times. He knows now if he walks from one thing to another that everyone claps & cheers for him so now he walks/runs between two things. He is getting there I was just wondering if there were other things that convinced them they can walk. Like we have 3 stand-push-play toys for him & he pushes them around on his knees. He didn't start walking around with them til about a week ago. AGAIN I AM NOT trying to push him or anything like that.

What's the rush? I have 16 month twins(well almost 17 months) and my son just started walking Easter weekend. my daughter on the other hand is petrified. She has to walk holding on with both hands and has a death grip on my fingers. She will cruise the furniture a little. I won't push her to walk she will do it when she is ready. I think eeing her brother roaming around will help coax her into walking.

As far as tips and tricks it looks as though he is already doing them and it won't be long before he will be walking. He could start walking anywhere from now to a couple or few months from now.

Just leave him alone!! He'll get there. Lots and lots of kids aren't walking well yet at 13 months. (My DD took her first unsupported steps right around that age, actually. She's now 8 and training for a 5K run.) There's a wide range of normal. I even know kids -- quite a few of them, actually -- who didn't walk until 18 months or close to it. And by the time they're 2, trust me, nobody can tell which ones walked "late".

Don't stress out about this. He'll get there :)

i think you're doing everything great. some kids just won't do it for some reason. my first and my third didnt' walk until 18 months. my second did at 13 months. each child is different, even ones in the same family, with mothers doing the exact same thing. he'll get it soon enough!! :)

Thanks everyone! He took 8 steps the other day =] He is just so stubborn & wants to hold onto something when he walks. But he is getting there!

He is doing good! The average age to walk is around 12 months. He is on track. He will get there before you know it!

It will happen before you know it. My son would do what yours was doing and then all of a sudden, he just walked further one day and that was that. And you'll find that even after they walk, they will still resort to crawling a lot because they've mastered that and it's much faster still! :)

Just wait. It will happen. My boy was 16 months old before he walked. The things you are doing now are all good so keep it up and you will soon be rewarded with a little walking person. :-)
