14 year old son doesn't need me

My 14 yr old son is with his friends most of the time. I try to have one on one time with him but I don't know what to talk about with him. He likes sports so I talk about that but his answers are always I guess and I don't know. I cry for the baby years

He does need you, he is 14!. He is just at the age where he is more independent and developing his own interests. I experienced the same thing with my 20yo and now with my 15 yo. When you do interact, ask open ended questions that require more than a one word answer. When you show an interest in what he enjoys, he may warm up a bit.

I had to learn to do things on my son's level. I let him lead me. We had already gotten some things we did do together but with his sister going to college I had to make it more geared to him and me rather than the three of us. I let him chose the movies most of the time and they were not movies I would normally go to and found I liked them. He begged me to go see a submarine a few hours drive away....I took him as it was history based and hands on. I take him still to the Medieval Fair near here too this day. I also took him to see the B-29 bomber plane from WW II when it was in town. We also watch Animae sometimes together, go out to eat, and movies now he is an adult.
