My son has had only 2 weeks of summer camp! All his friends are either away all summer or busy and he has nothing to do. Any suggestions?

Kids are so busy and over scheduled that when they have free time, they have no idea what to do! Can he volunteer at the library, animal shelter or nearby hospital? Is there a park nearby that is can get a daily game of soccer or basketball going? Otherwise, go to the library and get a stack of books. My younger two are 11 and 13 and during the school year are very busy and when they have absolutely nothing scheduled I allow them to be on the computer or watch a bit of extra TV, but I really push them to read and they go through stacks of books. Does he have any hobbies?

Do you have a yard? An empty old wood or plastic box? A couple bucks at a gardening centre could be something he could maintain as a project for the summer- you could probably even get some herbs or tomatoes out of the deal.
Your municipality might have a website of free or cheap things to do...
The volunteering thing is a good idea, too. Many old age/retirement communities look for young people to keep the elderly company.
