My son is 2 yrs and 7 months old. He has a sweet, loving, but independent personality. He doesn't throw tantrums much but when he does.. man.. watch out. This is usually when he's over tired. He still requires a nap everyday and when it gets delayed.. that's what alot of the trouble starts. I use the timeout method since that seems to be working more for us. The problem is, he doesn't speak much around other people or children. He can say alot of words and phrases.. hes just not going to say them around other people. I feel as though others are judging him or maybe they think he's delayed. Aren't tantrums normal part of development? I'm ashamed to admit that sometimes i get frustrated and little embarrassed. I feel like I'm not doing what i need to and neither is he.. maybe I need some encouragement.

Really encourage him to talk to others as well he may not have an actual speech delay but he needs to get past his shyness of speaking sooner rather than later so he does not have any issues once he starts school

Tantrums are very normal. A temper tantrum is the emotional equivalent of a summer storm — sudden and sometimes fierce. One minute you and your child are in a restaurant enjoying your dinner, the next minute he's whimpering, whining, and then screaming at the top of his lungs because his straw is bent. Children between the ages of 1 and 3 are especially prone to such episodes.
