Hello,
We live in Murrieta, Ca. I wonder if any Mom's out there have a child affected by mild CP who can give me some info on what to expect for 2nd grade. My daughter Brandi is 7 now beginning 2nd grade in a week. She has a sister four who is faster than her physically running, walking etc... and I know in first grade last year Brandi's challenges were her trying to keep up with her class line if they were walking somewhere on campus, Library day, lunch hour, multipurpose room event. I know there are comments made to her by kids like why can't you walk fast, why do you run so slow and those statements hurt her feelings. She is strongwilled and gives 110% effort in her physical actions but when someone downs her it really hurts. I am concerned about her self esteem. How to boost it, keep it boosted and helping her to continue to believe in herself not that I Mom am going to be at her school as much as I was last year for things like helping her in the bathroom when she needed help pulling up her clothes or potty matters where she is not as coordinated to care in that way. She is easily thrown off balance and I stand behind her when she is walking up or down stairs. I remind her to use the rail as a safety rule. I hurt when I see her fall alot. She trips over curbs easily and I just wish and want to protect her all the time. How to best teach her to handle others and her own internal feelings is difficult for me because I think I have a hard time with it myself. Finding those words at the right time don't come easily so I am reaching out through here. Thank you for listiening.
Another Mom :-)
