My 2nd labour was completely different to my first. It was perfect :-)
I had a bad first labour basically because I went to the hospital too early (when you don't know what 'true labour' is!!) & of course, they pumped me full of everything to hurry up my birth, complicating the natural process....
2nd labour, I stayed home as long as possible (& I highly recommend that! So much more comfortable in your own home, doesn't seem as bad) .... until my contractions were 2 mins apart & I was at the hospital an hour before I had my baby, no medical help what so ever. Everything went perfectly

my first was 3 days of progresive labour, the second was 7 hours and the 3rd was 2 hours but they all hurt i think the faster ones were worse cause you dont have time to adjust. i started shaking after madalyn(3rd) was born. the second time around you go in much more relaxed though, but they are all different just enjoy the experience no point stressing over it your body knows what it needs to do.

I can't attest to mine, I had a c-section with no labor for my first. My second lasted 15 hours. I can however tell you that my mothers was worse the 2nd time around. 13 hourse compared to 3 days. ouch. It really depends on the person.

No, my second was way worse than the first. The first (girl), I was in labor for 3 hours; the second labor (boy) lasted 14 hours!! Both babies were about 8 pounds. So you never know, so good luck and God bless.

My best friend just gave birth to her second child 2 days ago. Her first was over 18 hours and needed 2 epidurals. With this child she went to the doctors in the morning not sure what was going on (back labor) and was dialated to 4cm. Dr told her to walk at the mall to stimulate contractions. Thank God she went to the hospital instead of the mall. She was admitted at noon and was at 6cm. Then she had the baby by 3PM. He came so fast she almost was unable to get an epidural. She said it was GREAT! Hope yours goes just as well!

With my first son I was in labour for 11 hrs, with the second it was fast and furious only about 3 hrs. WIth the first the labour started out with my water breaking and then contractions slowly building up, with the second it went from mild cramping to "bang" full blown active labour I went from 3cms to 9 in about an hr! It was out of control.

[deleted account]

Our first daughter was born 12 hrs after labor began (when hubby shut the door to go duck hunting). Mom took me to the hospital after 5-6 hrs. She was 3 weeks late & weighed 8# 4 oz. With 2nd daughter, I never was really sure when labor started. I had a mild lower back ache that gave a twinge every 10 mins, or 1/2 hr or 5 mins. When I called the Dr., he said you won't have the baby at home. After 4 hrs of this mild, still very sporadic false labor, we went to the hospital at midnight. Daughter born 15 mins later, 7 # 10 oz about 2 weeks early.

Incidently, 1st was breast fed & had colic for months. Second was bottle fed & had colic exactly the same. Both had excellent grades in school & college. Breast fed daughter developed even more allergies later than other daughter. They are both grown now & had their babies naturally with NO pain meds. All are healthy & above normal.

OMG absolutely. You know what a contraction feels like and that right there is half of the battle. I remember with my first one I went to the hospital right away. I didn't know what it was going to feel like when the baby was ready to come out, so I went in early just in case. Once in the hospital, I was so nervous and depressed that my contractions spaced out and ended up back at home. With my second one, I knew exactly what it was going to feel like so I just waited out as long as I could. I did laundry and sat on my birth ball during contractions. Finally, around 7pm I felt it was time, headed to the hospital and my youngest was born 45mins later.

Mine was both easier and harder. The first time labor was 14 hours from start to finish with really no prelabor. It started strongly with contractions 2 - 3 minutes apart and I dialated about 1 cm an hour until she was born.

The second time...I had prelabor for 16 hours before I really got real contractions going (sore but relatively easy to deal with). Then another 6 hours of contractions every 4 - 5 min. that were pretty strong but I was able to sleep through it. Then another 7 hours or so of VERY strong contractions every 2 - 3 min. that I could not sleep through. After 6 hours of the super strong contractions I was sure I couldn't do it because I was making no progress (I was at home with no drugs), but then all of a sudden I got in the birthing tub and went from 4 - 10 in about an hour and the baby was born after only 2 min. of pushing. The really "serious" difficult to deal with, impossible contractions did not last nearly as long the second time even though the whole labor was much longer. I think if I'd gotten in the water sooner and been able to relax I probably would have had the baby sooner. Regardless...it was worth it to be at home and drug free!

My first child was about 6 hours. My second was only 2 hours, 3rd 1.5 hours and with my last child I made it to the hospital 15 minutes before she was born. So mine got faster with each child.

It doesnt matter which labor number it is their all diffrent. I have 3 kids and my 1st took only 3 hrs my 2nd was 5hrs then i had to have a c-section and the 3rd was 13 1/2 hrs and he was natural delivery so just try to breath and hope for a quick one lol sometime you can go faster if they break your water it usually gets things moving.

my second labor was 1/2 the time of my first (4 hrs). it was still as painful... just less time. & less time pushing.

I was induced with my first....16.5 hours an epidural...and still miserable....she was born

my second was 2 hours and 42 minutes from the first contraction til he was born...the first hour of contractions didnt even hurt....just uncomfy no epidural (he came too fast) I would say my second labor was easier and ALOT quicker....but I didn't plan on doing it with no epi

With my second and third labours I found that the time cut in half but the pain was much more intense so in that sense it was harder but pushing took a lot less time than with my first. Just make sure you have your birth plan figured out but be fllexible and don't feel badly if you choose a different route than the natural, no meds way. Congratulations and good luck.

I've been wondering the same thing! My first was born 1.5 hours after my water broke with 10 minutes of pushing. Of course I didn't have time for any pain medication, but she was barely 6 pounds. I'm so nervous that the second time is going to take forever and be super painful!

[deleted account]

I had a 8 hour natural birth with my first and a 36 hour labour followed by an emergency c-section with the second! My first baby was 5lb 14oz and my second was 10lb 6oz - Very different!!

my first labour was 3 hours and i thought that was quick compared to some stories i heard but my second time round was 45 mins and didnt even get to the delivery room gave birth in the entrance of the hospital and my partner had to deliver our daughter when help finally arrived they put me in a wheelchair holding my baby that was still attached to me and the umbillicle cord was banging against my ankles but at least i didnt have her in the car which i was certain was going to happen good luck

[deleted account]

With my first I had an epidural and was in labour for 12 hours. My second one was born an hour after arriving at the hospital. I was in labour for about 3 hours and then he was born after 10 mins of pushing....it was more painful than my first one as there was no time for an epidural the second time around. I'm not sure if i'm going for the third.

Good luck.!!!

My 2nd was completely different.

They were both overdue (Rach-10 days, Harv 14days). I had a lovely pregnancy and a waterbirth with my 1st but i had an oxytocin drip with 2nd

I had difficulties with my second labour - I had to be induced which was painful. During labour was painful and difficult but I had no problems delivering.

We are all different. Some of us would have had easy labour and deliveries second time around whilst others would not have experienced the same. If you everything has been OK during your clinical check ups, you would not have any problems during your labour and delivery stage.

Good luck!

i would say my second labour was faster, alot faster, but i think it al depends on how close your babies are. My 2 were only 16 months apart DD was 8 hours and 40mins and Ds was 4 hours and 47 mins so yeah they were different.
and im due for my 3rd in December so ill see if this one is any quicker im hoping so lol.

Hi..

My 1st labour from water breaking to birth was 30 mins. Just made it to the hospital..and my 2nd I was 7cm dilated when I went in for a checkup, didnt even know I was actually in labour. Haha. So the midwife ruptured the sac, then 10 mins later my water broke and 15 mins later number 2 was born. Pregnant with my 3rd atm, think I might book myself a few days earlier just to be on the safe side ;)..

my first labour was 18hrs then my son was born the day after his due date. with my second, i was in and out of labour for 2 weeks before her due date. i was a week over due before i had a sweep which made me go into full blown labour and she was born in 51/2 hrs. second labour was definately faster but the pre labour sucked.

my 2nd labour was exactly the same length as my first, but luckily they were both only 5.5hrs. the second was more painful but i think that was more due to her being against my spine than anything else. i think i should also mention that they were both inductions so im not sure if that makes any difference
