38 weeks preg and 1-2 minutes contraction...

Okay, So in the past three weeks I have been to the hospital a total of 5 times!! The first time I was fine I got monitored and was having contraction like every 20 minutes. Second time, I got monitored and had contractions every 15/17 minutes. OK, Ok getting to the point. Last night I went to the hospital and I was having contractions every 1-1.5 minutes and they were like a 6 on the pain scale. The nurse checked me and I was 3 cm dialated which doubled from 4 days before that. They called the doctor and he gave me a pain killer shot and sent me home. The nurse said that the shot would not stop the contractions if I was in REAL LABOR, but just ease the pain and if it was false labor the contractions would stop all together. She also said that if my contractions didn't stop to come back in to the hospital. So my contractions never stopped and the pain just dropped to like a 3-4 and I started having major back pain, so i went back to the hospital today and they checked me and said I was a 2!!!!! (which I was told I was a 3 last night) I'm so upset and I just feel like they won't keep me until the baby's head is hanging out of me. What do you think??

So easy for us to say "relax" but seriously for you own emotional state and the stress to both you and your baby, this is exactly what you need. Calm yourself with what ever relaxes you. Walk gently and close to home, like only inside your home if you are alone, or on your street if you have someone with you. Gentle exercise, calming thoughts and mentally picturing yourself in control is in order.
Best Wishes!

I hate it when doctors overestimate how dilated you are. You can get more dilated, but you cannot undilate... It doesn't happen. And I find it makes it easier to get caught up in the technicalities of labour. I was 2 cm 100% effaced for three weeks before Otto was born. The doctor kept checking at every appointment and telling me that it wouldn't be long. It was frustrating. Like Louise said, stay at home if you can, labouring at home was a lot more comfortable for me then it was at the hospital. It sounds like your little one is just testing to make sure your paying attention lol. Think of how good you'll be at contracting when he/she finally decides to show. Good luck!

If this is your first baby then it is more than likely the babies head pressing on a nerve to give you these contractions. If you are in pain then go to the hospital but if it is managable then stay at home as long as you can as your labour will progress quicker there. False alarms are a pain but it is all good practise for the real thing. Believe me labour is not a quick process for a first baby and you will have plenty of time to get to the hospital. Next time you get the contractions take a deep bath and try and relax if it is a false alarm the contractions will fade if it is the real thing then they get stronger and stronger. If this is happening alot then hire a tens machine to take the edge off. Just remember that baby will only arrive when he is ready and not before.
