Hey guys. This is my first pregnancy. I am 40 weeks & 4 days pregnant, OVERDUE. I'm having slot of stomach pain & cramps. I've even had brown spotting & a little bit of blood show. We've tried many things to speed up labour, incld sexual intercourse. When the contractions come they are ten to twenty minutes apart. Lastnight I stayed up because the pain was so intense, the contractions went on from 8:40pm to 7:00am in the morning. Then completely stopped. What can I do to speed up labour? Any suggestions.

Remember that anything between 38 and 42 weeks is considered a normal term pregnancy. Very few people deliver at exactly 40 weeks.

Has your doctor or midwife started talking to you about induction yet? They usually want all babies delivered by 42 weeks now, and induction plans often start being put together around now.

Since you've had a good solid block of strong contractions, and some bloody show, I'd say that you're probably very close. Any efforts at home to speed up labour will only move you along if you're already near you're time, but if you feel like walking, sex, eating pineapple or curry, none of that will hurt and it might get things moving a couple of hours sooner. If you just feel like rest though, take the opportunity to do so!

With 11 hours of strong contractions up to 10 minutes apart though, I'd say you're very close.

Wait. Baby will be here when baby is ready.

I went 44 weeks with my eldest, and 42 with my youngest.
